Idiots...nothing but Idiots

I am a hockey fan. I am Canadian. This would lead you to believe that I will cheer for any Canadian team still alive in the NHL Play - off's. Well that was the case until I heard about the antics of some fans of the Vancouver Canucks. At some point last week Theoren Fleury was on a radio talk show, out of Calgary I believe, and was asked about his thoughts on the upcoming play - offs. In his response Fleury talked about how he believes that the Canucks will be eliminated in the first round based on unproved goaltending in the play - off's. What happened in the hours and days following was bothering to me. The actions of some Canucks fan via the social media was disgusting, appaling, and a whole bunch of other words that can't be used. Basically what happened was some followers of the West Coast kids forgot that we live in Canada and individuals are entitled to their own opinions. What they did was bring up Fleury's past and the whole Graham James thing which is something that was, and still is troubling to many who call themselves a hockey fan. Sure, differences in opinion arise in sport on a daily basis, and I love to get into it with a friend or colleague when it comes to sports. However, there is a fine line between acceptable and unacceptable...and those who chose to say what they said were well in excess of those limitations. What troubles me the most is these cowards used the social media to let their ideas be known and therefore kept their identity anonymous. If you are 'man' enough to say these types of things, have the manhood to put your name on it. In the words of former NFL Coach Herman Edwards, '' put your name to it ". What Fleury went through, and arguably continues to deal with takes more courage than you or I could imagine. Anyone willing to make fun of what this guy has gone through is somebody whom will never be worthy of my respect. Therefore, I will be an ABC fan come play - offs....that is Anyone BUT Canucks.

Major League Baseball will be trying something new this year. Rather than open the season on Monday as has been the tradition as long as I can remember, the first pitch will be thrown out Thursday. This does make sense for a lot of baseball fans as it is a lot easier to go through one day of work hungover after opening day as it is to go through an entire week of work after Monday's festivities. As for baseball itself, I am going to give this topic a long, hard thought and give you my insights and predictions tomorrow. Yes, this is more a ploy to get more people to come back and continue reading my blog.

Dustin Penner returns to Edmonton as an L.A. King tonight. You watch, that piano he had tied to his backend for the whole time he spent as an Oiler will be nowhere in sight and he will be the best player on the ice. Just watch.... That's it for today...see ya tomorrow
