Bruce Boudreau's big mouth has once again caught the attention of the hockey world. Earlier in the year, his 'word selection' during an intermission talk to his team caught the anxst of many. For those of you unaware, Boudreau's Washington Capitals are in Montreal to take on the Canadiens tonight. This will be the first Hab's game at home since the Chara hit last Monday, and fans of the team plan to protest outside the Bell Centre in response to the NHL's lack of discipline for the hit delivered to Max Pacioretty. When asked about this, Boudreau said something to the effect that "if you don't like headshots, don't come to the game." Honestly Bruce Boudreau, this comment makes you sound like a heartless child of unwed parents. Statements like this tell me that Bruce Boudreau not only knows that headshots are a part of the game, he seems to be all right with it. You could even say he condones it with this type of comment. He is all right with it for two reasons: (1) he has not been negatively impacted by an injury to one of his high profile players, and (2) admitting he is against these types of hits would mean he would have to admit that one of his former players, David Steckel, is the reason why argubaly the best player in the league today has not played in over two months. Steckel was the one who gave Sidney Crosby that vicious blindside blow to the head in the Winter Classic on New Year's Day.
What makes Bruce Boudreau someone worth listening to in the first place. The man has done nothing in this league. He has been given a tremendous team, filled with talent, and has done absolutely nothing with it.
Secondly, should he not be spending more time figuring out how he is going to avoid another collapse in the play - offs, and less time squaking off???
Do you think Mr. Boudreau and his potty mouth would feel the same way about headshots if it had been Alex Ovechkin or Nicklas Backstrom who was concussed on New Year's Day and not Sideny Crosby, whose team is arguably his teams greatest rival??? Not on your life.
Advice to the Capitals brass, get your coach a muzzle because not only he is making himself look like a jackass, but his comments reflect poorly on your organization as well.
